Freeze – Remember Hiroshima

August 8, 2008 – 11:33 am

On Wednesday there was an action starting at the Powell St. Bart station and moving across the street to the shopping mall, which has 9 floors and lots of shoppers. Most of the demonstrators had a sign pinned to them saying, “No Attack on Iran”. At a given signal by a World Can’t Wait organizer, the demonstrators froze in place for 5 minutes. It was well coordinated, and short enough so that the security and police were powerless to act. It was peaceful and fun.

After the freeze in the shopping center, the group moved back across the street, rallied, and then had another short action outside, including in Market Street. This freeze lasted four minutes, auto traffic was stopped, horns blaring, and with some tempers rising.

  2. What a powerful expression of anti-war activism, Fletcher! I love that you were able to capture the “feeling” of the freeze, and had to laugh at the poor security guards. They didn’t know WHAT to think! 🙂
