Barbara and I were in Northern India in November, visiting Delhi, Varanasi, Agra, and Jaipur, and then back again through Delhi. I put up the first set of photos, from the first few days, all taken in Delhi. We went to a Sikh Temple on our first day and got a sense of the religious life in the country, that seems to be so much part of the daily life. The entire set can be seen at http://photos.fletcho.com/India-2014/Delhi-1

The people we encountered were very friendly. As we walked through the city we were always photographing. We conversed, as best we could, with many people. It would have been very good to have known just a little Hindi. Other than Namaste, we knew none.

Swastikas appear everywhere in India. They are a symbol of auspiciousness in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. They have none of the stigma that prevails here in the West because of the Nazi takeover of the swastika.

Hey Fletcher — I have been to India twice, in 1982 and 1988, and although many Indian people have told me that the place has changed so much as to be unrecognizable, it looks to me like almost NOTHING has changed! I looked at all your photos. Thanks for the treat.

FLETCHER AND BARBARA!
These are such beautiful photographs! I’m in love with the photo of the goat . . . got a thing for goats! One of these days I’ll visit the other places that begin with “I” (other than Italy!) that are on my bucket list: India, Istanbul, Ireland. With these photos, I feel as if my journey has already begun! Thanks so much. I wish you both well . . . Saluti!

Hi Fletcher, These were great to look at and really get a feeling for the place. The colors are amazing. I like the pictures of the people involved in activities so you really got a feeling of the life. The bicycles and wagons were super cool too!

Hi Fletcher,
It’s says something about humanity’s trust that so many people agree to a stranger taking their photo and all seeming to convey genuine peace. It also says something about the photographer. Thank you for sharing these moments. Regards, Unna (from Australia).

Hi Fletcher/ Barbra ; Lovely captures of moods, and situations, showing diversity of people and their belief and traditions. We both are thrilled to see these intense faces as if telling their story. God bless.

Hi, Fletcher,
I think you’ve captured the culture quite well. Being a landscape photographer, I am a bit timid taking portraits of people. You do it very well. My husband and I both LOVE India. I’ve been 3times, he’s been 5, with 2 6 month long stints. Your images make me long for another trip there.

Thank you for all the very complimentary comments. I appreciate them very much. India is truly a wonderful place. We hope to return there sooner than later. I will be posting photographs from the next leg of this journey, to Varanasi, as soon as they are completed.

Hi Fletcher and Barbara, Thanks for sharing these beautiful images. I, too, enjoyed all of the photos and look forward to the additional galleries. It is so striking how you are able to capture the light in people’s eyes – and surely, their hearts. All of your photos are beautiful, but those of the people are amazing.
